In a country where rape and harrassment were the norm for Iraqi women under Saddam Hussein's regime, women were also withheld from positions in the military. Now with a US-led military training program held in Zarqa, Jordan, Iraqi women are being trained to join the new Iraqi Army. For 10 weeks women ranging in age from their early 20's to mid-40's, come to Jordan, most leaving Iraq for their first time ever. Here they undergo the daily rigors of boot camp including physical training and learning how to fire weapons. Bonds are formed with complete strangers that many had not anticipated. By graduation day, while filled with pride and satisfaction, a sadness overwhelmed many of the ladies, for they new, now it was time to go back to Iraq and see what the reality of their new positions would bring them.
